Experience the Southeast Community Day Parade & Festival

Southeast Community Day Parade and Festival was founded in 1991 by Andrew Shannon to bring a joyful yearly event to the Newport News, Virginia community. This Hampton Roads favorite has excited the community for over 30 years and still continues to bring a spirit of happiness.

Feeding 5000

The Andrew Shannon Feeding 5000 event began in 2001. This service to building a stronger community has been able to provide meals to so many, including across the greater Hampton Roads and Richmond areas.

Concert performances have included: Koryn Hawthorne, Byron Cage, Luther Barnes, Kurtis Blow, Glenn Jones, Maurice Yancey and One Accord, Half Mile Home, Bobby Jones, Kierra Sheard-Kelly, Jor’Dan Armstrong, Jekalyn Carr, JJ Hairston, Dorothy Norwood, and more!

Meet Andrew Shannon

Andrew Shannon is a prominent community leader, organizer, and civil rights advocate in Newport News, Virginia known for founding major local events like the Southeast Community Day Parade & Festival and the Dr. MLK Jr. Parade, and organizing large-scale charitable efforts like “FEEDING 5000” events providing free meals and resources, focusing on youth services, social justice and community empowerment. He has a background in public service, with extensive experience in program development and community engagement across the country. Shannon has worked in civil rights for over 35 years.
